About 153

Who does 153 The Story serve?

Our primary focus is missionary kids and emerging young people shaped by cross-cultural life. Programs may have specific age, location, or eligibility requirements; current details are published with each opportunity.

Why focus on missionary kids?

Missionary kids often develop unusual resilience, empathy, and cultural fluency while also navigating transition, identity pressure, and limited access to sustained mentoring. We create places where their strengths can be recognized and developed without reducing them to a problem to solve.

Is 153 The Story a Christian organization?

Yes. Our work is rooted in the Christian conviction that every person bears God-given dignity, gifts, and purpose. We express that identity with clarity and hospitality while serving young people across cultures and backgrounds.

Programs & participation

What programs do you offer?

We currently use creative recognition programs, including the MK Art Competition, as an entry point. Our longer-term model is Discover, Develop, Connect, Launch: recognition, skill and character development, trusted relationships, and practical next-step opportunities.

How can a young person participate?

Open programs and eligibility guidelines are announced through this website and our communications. Because requirements vary by program, please review the current announcement or contact us before submitting materials.

How are award recipients selected?

Selection is based on the published criteria for each program and is reviewed by the relevant judging or selection process. An award is one form of recognition; it is not a measure of a young person’s worth or future potential.

Giving & transparency

How are donations used?

Gifts support program access, awards and participant opportunities, mentoring and development, communications, and the operational systems required to serve young people responsibly. Designated gifts are handled in accordance with applicable policies and charitable requirements.

Are donations tax-deductible?

153 The Story is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. Contributions are generally tax-deductible to the extent allowed by U.S. law. Donors should consult their own tax adviser for guidance about their circumstances.

Partnership & trust

How can my church, foundation, or company partner?

Partners can help underwrite programs, sponsor access and awards, contribute professional expertise, offer mentoring or learning opportunities, and expand the network around young people. Use the contact form and select the partnership option that best fits your interest.

How do you protect young people’s privacy?

We aim to share stories and creative work with care, appropriate permission, and respect for each participant. We do not intentionally publish sensitive personal information, and questions about a specific use can be directed to 153thestory@gmail.com.
